Consultant in Acute Medicine

At Macclesfield District General Hospital we are are excited to welcome a Consultant Acute Physician to join a dynamic and forward thinking team. The successful applicant will join a team of 5 Consultant Acute Physicians during an exciting stage of growth and expansion for the service. With the guidance of our inspiring clinical team, this role will allow you the opportunity to enhance your skills, leadership and confidence while holding management and clinical responsibility for patients on the Medical Admissions Unit (MAU).

The new Consultant Acute Physician will join our outstanding team in the delivery of acute care across the Medical Admissions Unit (MAU), Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC), Acute Medical Receiving Unit (AMRU)and will support the Emergency Department staff with assessments of patients with acute medical problems. Your expertise will play a key role in leading and coordinating the junior medical staff to ensure that patients are assessed and admitted or discharged in line with Emergency Department targets.

The team is part of an exciting project in which an extension in the form of a receiving unit (AMRU) has been added to MAU in June 2026.

Offer of dynamic rostering / flexible work spread between General Virtual Ward (GVW), SDEC and AMRU (Acute Medical Receiving Unit). The role outlined will be pivotal in guiding the department toward our long-term vision and strategy of providing excellent care to the local community.
