About the role

The post would appeal to anyone who has an established interest in Mental Health Services for General Psychiatry. You will need to ensure that people who use services, carers and advocates are treated with respect and dignity. The post holder will be required to work in partnership at both strategic and operational levels with relevant and external stakeholders. The post holder will need to ensure that people who use services, carers and advocates are treated with respect and dignity

You will provide excellent clinical leadership and actively develop your team along with expert advice to our hospital and community specialists, managers and directors on what is needed to deliver excellent care and to develop future strategic directions.

The consultant has a continuing responsibility for the care of patients and for the proper functioning of the department. The consultant will liaise with the general practitioners, hospital and community specialists and other agencies wherever relevant.

Person specification

Essential

MB BS or equivalent medical qualification
MRC Psych or equivalent
Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practice at the time of appointment.
Included on the GMC Specialist Register or equivalent within 6 months of the interview date
Approved clinician status OR able to achieve within 3 months of appointment
Clinical expertise in specialty / sub specialty
Excellence clinical skills using bio-psycho-social perspective and wide medical knowledge
Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
Ability to manage clinical complexity and uncertainty
Makes decisions based on evidence and experience including the contribution of others
Able to meet duties under MHA and MCA
Able to deliver undergraduate or postgraduate teaching and training
Ability to work in and lead a team
Demonstrate commitment to shared leadership & collaborative working
Participated in continuous professional development
Participated in research or service evaluation
Able to use and appraise clinical evidence
Has actively participated in clinical audit and quality improvement programmes

Has led clinical audits leading to service change or improved outcomes to patients
