About the role

This is the first substantive,combined Consultant post in Genitourinary Medicine and General Medicine in GSTT. The post holder will provide general and complex GUM including LARC and a specialist area to be defined, and 8 weeks of internal medicine cover per year divided between ward cover and the acute assessment unit.

This is a part-time (8 programmed activities/0.8 Whole time equivalent) . The post holder will provide complex sexual health care, leadership within the sexual and reproductive health department, training, as well as general clinical and managerial responsibilities in the department. The post holder will contribute to clinical, teaching, audit and research support for the department and management support for the medical staff and the department in general. The service currently operates a senior doctor model where the named senior doctor provides oversight and support for the service as well as managing referrals and hospital/primary care queries. The post holder will provide leadership for a specialist area of GUM to be negotiated within the consultant team. There is potential to develop other areas of interest as the department requires. The post includes a regular General Internal Medicine commitment, delivered in discrete blocks across the year. This includes weekend and out of hours commitments and comprises: Four separate 1-week Acute Admission Ward/acute medicine blocks One 4-week block on the North Wing general medical ward.

Essential

MBBS or equivalent and full GMC registration and a Licence to Practice and on Specialist register for Genitourinary medicine or within 6 monbth sof cobtaining certificate of completion of training in Genitourinary medicine by the AAC /interview date or has submitted a CESR application for entry to the specialist register for genitourinary medicine by the AAC/interview date
MRCP/FRCP
Diploma in Genitourinary Medicine
Diploma in HIV medicine
Diploma of the Faculty of sexual and Reproductive Health
Letter of Competency for Subdermal implants
Letter of Competency for Intra-uterine techniques
Evidence of broad-based training experience and competence in sexual health, contraception (including LARC) and HIV care equivalent to that required for a UK CCT
Wide experience in Sexual and Reproductive Health and HIV work including experience in community clinics
Understanding of and training in safeguarding issues (young people and adults)
Training and broad experience of general and acute medicine
Understanding the need for an integrated sexual health service and the commissioning requirements for these.
Evidence of a depth of understanding of audit.
Evidence of understanding of the role of clinical management
Evidence of understanding of and adherence to the principles of Good Medical Practice set out by the General Medical Council.
Evidence of contribution to effective clinical audit and clinical risk management.
Evidence of multidisciplinary working, organisational skills, and IT skills.
Understanding of the principles and applications of clinical research.
Demonstration of an interest in research and willingness to help developing academic activity aligned with the King's Health Partners' strategy.
Experience of teaching and training undergraduates, postgraduates, junior medical staff and wider clinical multidisciplinary team.
Experience of clinical and educational supervisor, with training
Publication of relevant articles or case reports, experience of presentation in national and/or international meetings or conferences.

Current LoC Med Ed/PGEA in Medical Education

Research skills and experience in sexual health research
Publications in peer reviewed journals
