About the role
This is a 10PA post designed primarily to support specialised oncologic plastic surgery and reconstruction at The Christie NHS Foundation Trust which is a tertiary referral centre for the treatment of cancer. This is a post where the successful candidate is expected to have a key role in the development of the expanding breast surgery service, head and neck surgery and skin cancer service to support the Plastic Surgery department. The appointee will be expected to be involved in all areas of oncologic plastic surgery and microsurgical reconstruction, providing cover where necessary to the existing plastic surgeons and would be expected to share cover of the perineal reconstruction service.
Possession of the FRCS(Plast) and CCT, or an equivalent recognised accreditation in Plastic Surgery is essential, and interest in research and teaching is desirable. The candidates will have undergone recognised specialist training and have experience in plastic surgery oncology including microvascular reconstruction. Experience in perineal reconstruction is desirable. Candidates should show a broad range of publication and research activity and audits in broad range of plastic surgery topics including oncology. Development of the Breast Service:The development of this service will rely heavily in forging links with breast surgery colleagues in the other hospitals in the region. The successful candidate may be expected to attend the Family History Clinics at the Nightingale Unit at South Manchester. The Christie is positioned to be one of the major breast reconstructive Units in the Northwest region. Support of skin services:This service at the Christie has a well-established multidisciplinary approach to the management of patients with skin cancer. This includes surgery, medical oncology and clinical oncology; enabling the delivery of the highest quality of care to patients. Parallel clinics with oncologists for discussion of complex skin tumours and nurse led support are provided
