About the role

We are seeking a motivated General Practitioners (GP) in Emergency Medicine to join our team working at the Emergency Department at West Cumberland Hospital, Whitehaven in Cumbria. As a GP in our ED, the post holder will play a vital role in delivering high-quality, safe, and patient-centred urgent and emergency care to our local communities. As a GP in Emergency Medicine, the post holder work closely with a skilled multidisciplinary team, including consultants, SAS doctors, resident doctors, advanced clinical practitioners, nurses, and healthcare support staff, to deliver safe, high-quality, and patient-centred care for a broad range of emergency as well as urgent conditions. The post holder will be responsible, along with the multidisciplinary clinical team for the delivery of urgent care within the North Cumbria Emergency Medicine service. The post holder will be expected to actively join in teaching and training of more junior doctors and medical students and to join in audit activity. The post holder's clinical expertise and leadership will ensure patients receive timely assessment, treatment, and clear onward care pathways. Providing expert clinical care across our Emergency Care services, supporting safe and effective urgent and emergency care delivery.

Essential

Hold appropriate medical qualification to practice medicine in the UK
Fully registered with General Medical Council with current Licence to Practise
Hold a certified GP qualification (or within 6 months of qualification)
Registered on a regional Performers list with no restrictions to practise
Primary Care
Ability to diagnose and manage common medical conditions
Excellent verbal, written and electronic communication skills
Ability to safely and confidently prioritise patients presenting problems
Ability to identify and assess complex problems
Good organisational skills
Knowledge of local services
Recent general practice experience
Experience of telephone consultations
Ability to sign post to allied services
Ability to advise on efficient and smooth running of the service.
