About the role

Applicants are invited for the post of ST3+ Trust Grade Doctor (SPR Level) working at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery (NHNN), Queen Square.The holder of this post will rotate through various firms. The post holder will have the same educational opportunities and clinical and educational supervision arrangements as the other neurology/stroke SpRs with NTNs. 12-month post beginning August 2026. NHNNThe hospital is internationally renowned as a leading centre for clinical care and research. We welcome both trainee neurologists and general medical trainees wishing to gain experience in the management of neurological disorders to inform their future practice. The hospital is closely linked to a number of leading research facilities, and trainees wishing to pursue research interests in future will be well placed to explore this.Queen Square is minutes from Russell Square and Holborn underground stations in central London and has good transport connections to national rail and bus networks.

There are a number of different firms at the hospital, and trainees can gain experience in:o Epilepsy and sleep disorderso Parkinsonism and movement disorderso Dementia and cognitive impairmento Neuropathies and myopathieso Neuro-ophthalmologyo Autonomic dysfunctiono Neuromuscular complex careo Neurological intensive care (unique within the UK)o Stroke, including thrombolysis and rehabilitation SHOs rotate through weeks of inpatient ward work and time on the daycare unit. Shifts are a combination of standard hours (usually 8.30am to 5pm) and on-call shifts.TeachingThere are daily opportunities to attend teaching. These include grand rounds, clinico-pathologic cases, bedside teaching and consultant-led tutorials, often by international experts. One teaching session is protected: a weekly teaching session tied to the curriculum and delivered by consultants.SupervisionAll trainees will have a named educational supervisor and an electronic portfolio on which to log progress.

Essential

Completion of CMT training or equivalent
MRCP or equivalent
Experience in Neurology/ Stroke and keen interest in pursuing career in Neurology/ Stroke
Eligible for full registration with the GMC at time of appointment and hold a current licence to practise. Non-UK trained doctors must be on the GMC register by date of appointment having completed both PLAB1 and PLAB2.
Knowledge of confidentiality, data protection, Good Clinical Practice and GDPR
Management of medical or neurology/stroke inpatients
IT proficiency at advanced user level (Spreadsheet, Word Processing, Database, Email).
Completion of projects, audit, quality improvement and service developments related to Neurology/Stroke
Communicate effectively and compassionately with patients from a diverse range of backgrounds and with diverse clinical and social needs.
Excellent written and oral communication with colleagues within a multidisciplinary ethos.
Good inter-personal skills with an ability to work co-operatively in a multidisciplinary setting.
A very high level of consideration and care for patients
Resourceful and able to work independently, and manage own workload through excellent organisational skills and effective ordering of priorities
Meticulous and accurate in all aspects of work
