About the role

We are looking for a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist to joinour team of Consultants in Women's Health at Southmead Hospital, Bristol NHS Foundation Trust. Due to recent national appointments, we have created a need for someone to join ourgrowingteam and to supportour core business. This is an exciting opportunity to join our team when we are developing and expanding services offering high quality care to our women in all parts of our service. An interest in colposcopywould be especially welcome.

Applicants should have a CCT or be within six months of achieving this at the date of interview or be listed on the GMC's specialist register to be eligible for application for a substantive post. CESR applicants are welcome and must have their CESR in place at the time of interview. The postholder willbe responsible forthe clinical management of patients under their care, and, in liaison with consultant colleagues, continuity of care when the post holder is absent.The postholder willbe responsible forthe professional supervision and management of junior medical staff.The postholder will berequiredto take part in a Clinical Audit Programme.

Person specification

Essential

MRCOG or equivalent
Maintain Full registration with the GMC.
CCT in Obstetrics & Gynaecology and have been entered on the GMC Specialist Register at the time of commencing the post.
Applicants should have a CCT or be within six months of achieving this at the date of interview or be listed on the GMC's specialist register to be eligible for application for a substantive post. CESR applicants are welcome and must have their CESR in place at the time of interview.
Recent experience and familiarity of UK hospital systems and practices (or equivalent).
Clinical training and experience in general Obstetrics & Gynaecology equivalent to that required for UK CCT.
Any ATSM / SITM complementing advanced and benign gynaecology.
Colposcopy training.
Must reside within 30 minutes or ten miles from the principal place of work
Evidence of recent CME/ reasonable training progression at this stage of career.
Experience in audit project and written up
Knowledge of contemporary NHS management issues.
Knowledge of political context within which we operate.
Proven teaching ability.
Willingness to undertake teaching of medical under-graduates & postgraduates.
Ability to lead a team and form effective working relationships within a team.
Ability to inspire, motivate and develop junior medical staff.
s empathetic and sensitive to the needs of others including patients and colleagues.
An ability to explain complex and sensitive information, sometimes under stressful circumstances to others.
Must be able to influence and persuade effectively.
Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills to write and present management reports as required.

Desirable

Higher academic qualification (e.g., MD or MS).
Advanced laparoscopic, hysteroscopy and gynaecological scanning.
Evidence of MDT working in obstetrics and gynaecology.
Completion of a general management course or programme.
Demonstration of involvement in clinical directorate management.
Demonstration of quality improvement projects successfully completed.
Proven track record in research.
Willingness to undertake further research.
