Consultant in Coronary and Structural Intervention - Full time (10PA) The University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust invites you to apply for this exciting opportunity to join the Interventional and Structural Cardiology teams at The Glenfield Hospital. Our vision is to be a world class cardiac centre, recognised for pioneering innovation, research and clinical excellence, while delivering safe, compassionate, and patient-centred care. You will join a strong and well-resourced team of structural operators (Dr Banning, Dr Hussain, Prof Kovac and Dr Rajendra), supported by a Structural Cardiology Fellow and an experienced team of nurses including our pioneering Structural Nurse Specialist. We deliver a comprehensive structural programme of >600 structural procedures per year maintaining our position among the highest performing centres in the country reflecting the composition, hard work, adaptability, and commitment of the entire multidisciplinary team (interventional and imaging cardiology, cardiac anaesthesia, stroke medicine, paediatric-congenital cardiology, cardiac and vascular surgery). The successful candidate will have 3PAs for structural and coronary interventional lab sessions in addition to participation in the 1:10 Interventional oncall rota.

Maintenance of the highest clinical standards in the management of patients. To share with colleagues responsibility for the day-to-day management of patients. To promote new ways of working and co-ordinating care for patients in the community and to ensure that services are based on effective and integrated partnerships across the health community. Take part in multidisciplinary case conferences. Supervise and train junior medical staff To be involved in appraising and assessing juniors. Teaching, research and administration. To proactively develop the service. To actively participate in both departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance and audit. There is an on-call rota for emergency coronary intervention/primary PCI of 1:10 with Emergency work currently assessed as averaging 1.2 programmed activities per week. Our annual departmental volume of primary PCI is consistently just over 400 pa. We carry out approximately 1,400 coronary interventions a year, largely from our local catchment population of approximately 1 million. IVUS, OCT, and pressure wire testing are routinely available, and we have huge expertise in complex coronary intervention including left main stem procedures, challenging anatomy, rotablation, and chronic total occlusion PCI. We have 5 high specification catheterisation laboratories and a hybrid theatre.

MB BS or Equivalent
Full GMC Registration
Fully Accredited for Higher Specialist Training or will be eligible for inclusion on the Specialist Register within 6 months of the interview date. oEntry on the GMC Specialist Register for Cardiology via: o i. CCT or CESR (CP) - proposed o CCT/CESR (CP) date must be within 6 months of interview o ii. CESR o III. European Community Rights
MRCP or equivalent
Current ALS Certification
Evidence of training and competence in structural intervention, particularly Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation with structural interventional fellowship.
Evidence of training and competence in coronary intervention with completion of training in interventional cardiology.
Fully trained in Coronary and Structural Interventional Cardiology
Excellent clinical skills and experience requisite to meeting all aspects of the Job Plan.
Ability to apply sound clinical judgment to problems.
Demonstrates clear, logical thinking / analytical approach.
Experience in managing acute and general cardiovascular medicine.
Extensive experience in structural intervention with proficiency in undertaking Transcatheter aortic valve implantation across a variety of TAVI prostheses and vascular access techniques.
Experience in undertaking coronary intervention, including emergency primary PCI. Proficiency in use of intracoronary imaging and invasive coronary physiology techniques.
Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team and supervise juniors.
Experience of leading teams and awareness of leadership styles.
Ability to effectively organise, prioritise and manage clinical workload.
Understanding of wider health agenda and modern NHS
Ability to work to overcome barriers to change (negotiating, influencing and persuasion skills).
Knowledge and understanding of clinical governance issues.

Desirable

Membership of relevant Specialist Societies or Associations
Higher degree eg MD/PhD, MSc or equivalent
Evidence of clinical or research commitment and a relevant specialty interest.
Experience of other structural-valvular interventions (eg. Mitral-TEER, Tricuspid-TEER, ) and/or LAA closure, septal occlusions)
Experience in complex coronary procedures and undertaking coronary intervention in complex high-risk indicated patients.
Evidence of management and administration experience.
Management training on an accredited course.
Awareness of Service Development issues.
