About the role
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Locum Fixed Time Consultant Radiologist with Interests in Breast and Body Imaging to join our teams in the Breast Imaging and General Radiology departments at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust.
We are one of the UK’s largest teaching Trusts, a major trauma centre and breast screening centre, serving a regional population of 1.5 million in a modern PFI facility (which ensures a guaranteed equipment replacement programme).
This post will be primarily based at the University Hospital site and will involve 10 programmed activities (10 PA). You will contribute to the Body Consultant on call rota and to provision of Breast symptomatic and screening diagnostics.

The primary duty of this post is to provide specialist Breast and General Body Imaging support. This would include breast clinics, imaged guided procedures, reading/reporting sessions and participation in multi-disciplinary meetings (MDTs). The primary purposes of the post will be to contribute to the provision of Breast Imaging specialist services and general Body imaging. The post holder will be expected to be competent in all aspects of breast imaging and image guided intervention. The main responsibility is to support and extend existing breast imaging services, which includes screening, symptomatic work and regional breast MDTs. Expertise and knowledge in breast MRI and MRI guided biopsy would be an advantage. The appointed candidate will join the existing breast team which comprises of 4.3 WTE consultant radiologists, 4 consultant radiographers, 3 clinically based advanced practitioners and 1 that completes film reading and management duties. In addition the post-holder will undertake sessions in the general radiology department. The majority of work will be acute and cold CT sessions. Any other subspecialist interest outside of breast imaging can be accommodated during these sessions. There is also a requirement to provide evening inpatient CT cover once a week, with compensatory time off in the week. The post holder also participate in the general body on-call rota (currently 1 in 20).

To provide, in collaboration with clinical and Radiology colleagues,
· Radiology services to patients in Coventry, Rugby and the surrounding districts.
· To work with the existing Radiologists to deliver the department’s activity. This will include ensuring that all appropriate waiting lists and waiting times are adhered to, that services are provided in an effective and efficient manner and that the principles of risk management and clinical governance are maintained at all times.
· To support multi-disciplinary team meetings.
· To develop an academic and research interest. (individuals with specific specialist skills are welcome to add those to the Trust’s imaging scope)
The post will be primarily based at the UHC site but all radiologists could be expected to work at STX or in the Community Diagnostics Centre (CDC). UHC and STX are about 12 miles apart. There may be occasional clinics at George Eliot Hospital (GEH) to cover the regional breast services; this would be agreed as part of job planning.
