About the role

Applications are invited for an enthusiastic and motivated Clinical Fellow to join the established team at Birmingham Women's and Children's NHS Foundation Trust looking after children with acquired neuro-inflammatory diseases and inherited white matter disease. This is a unique opportunity to gain experience in diagnosis and all aspects of management as part of a multidisciplinary team that includes Neurologists, Neurosurgeons, Radiologists, Neurophysiologists, Neuropsychiatrists, Psychologists, Physiotherapists, Speech and Language Therapist, Occupational Therapists and Nurses.

To provide high-level clinical care and diagnostic leadership within the Paediatric Neurology department, specifically focusing on the intersection of acquired neuro-inflammatory diseases and inherited white matter disease.

Essential

Eligible for GMC registration
MRCPCH or equivalent
Previous training in Paediatrics at ST 2 level
Appropriate progression of career to date
Appropriate training in the field of child protection or to be completed before start date
Excellent communication skills
Willingness to seek and offer advice appropriately
Perseverance and effectiveness in problem solving
Capacity to assess and manage undifferentiated clinical problems
Ability to organise complex investigations
Proficiency in lumbar puncture
Supportive attitude
Willing collaborator
Evidence of audit projects having been completed and some evidence of basic management training

Desirable

Higher degree or further Qualifications relevant to paediatric neurology, metabolic medicine or genetics
Experience in clinical teaching
Experience in paediatric neurology/ metabolic medicine or genetics
Core skills in the assessment and management of child protection issues
Advanced communication skills for delivering life-altering genetic or chronic inflammatory diagnoses to families
Previous personal research experience
Peer review research and/or clinical publications
IT Literacy
