About the role

This exciting post offers the opportunity for a motivated anaesthetist to develop skills and experience in global anaesthesia and international partnerships, while contributing to the clinical anaesthetic service at Worthing Hospital.

The role is well-suited to individuals with an interest in equitable healthcare, education in resource-limited settings, and the development of sustainable international collaborations. Fellows will gain exposure to global health principles and practice while continuing to develop their clinical competence in a supportive NHS environment.

This post is available from August 2026 for 12 months. Post holder will have their rota amended to support educational commitments. There is a full on call commitment expected from the post holder.

The duties will include pre, per and post-operative management of surgical patients, assisting with care of the patients on the ICU, and provision of assistance with resuscitation calls.

• The post holder will also be expected to participate on all on call rotas. The department manages 3 tiers of cover – Theatres, Obstetrics and ITU and rotation will be through all of these disciplines. All rota’s are EWTD compliant in line with the 2016 Junior Doctor Contract and 2019 amendments to this contract. All on call is maintained at a 1:10 ratio.

The fellow will have the opportunity to engage in activities related to global anaesthesia and international collaboration, matched as far as possible to both the department’s ongoing work and the fellow’s personal interests. Areas of involvement may include: • Educational delivery and curriculum development • Quality improvement initiatives • Collaborative research • Global health advocacy

Communication: This will include responsibility for and arrangement of:

• Communication and liaison with all other medical and service departments within the hospital. • Communication with other hospitals. • Teaching The postholder may be involved in teaching other doctors and medical students, nurses and other paramedical staff in the team in speciality and special interest

• The post holder will also be expected to participate on all on call rotas. The majority of the global health work will be UK-based, using remote engagement through long-standing partnerships held by members of the anaesthetic team.

While not mandatory, fellows will be encouraged and supported to undertake short visits abroad to learn more about anaesthesia service delivery and development and participate in face-to-face partnership work.

Global health activities within the post have a strong emphasis on bidirectional learning and ethical partnership work.

The fellow will be mentored and will receive educational supervision from senior anaesthetists with substantial experience in global anaesthesia, international partnerships, and overseas capacity development.

· Educational supervision and regular review meetings will support both clinical and non-clinical development. · Fellows will also be encouraged to join wider global health networks and fellowship communities to enhance peer support and learning.

Person specification

Essential

• Basic medical degree
• Completed at least two years postgraduate training at CT1 and CT2 level in a relevant training programme.
• Full GMC Registration with a licence to practice
• Advanced Life Support Certificate from the Resuscitation Council UK or equivalent
• Completion of Initial Assessment of competence (IAC) and Initial Assessment of Competence for Obstetric Anaesthesia (IACOA)
• Possesses range of clinical knowledge, skills and information technology expertise.
• Understanding of clinical risk management
• Experience and ability to work in multi-professional teams
• Understanding of: NHS / Clinical governance / Resource constraints
• Evidence of an interest and commitment to teaching
• Evidence of participation in audit
• Appropriate progression of career to date
• Evidence of:- Good communication skills both oral and written

Desirable

. Demonstrated interest in global health, anaesthesia development or health equity
Previous experience working clinically or teaching in resource-limited setting.
