About the role

Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, motivated and highly skilled Consultant Gastroenterologist to join the established Gastroenterology Department. This is an exciting opportunity to become part of a dynamic and forward-thinking service that provides specialist gastroenterology and hepatology care to the population of Buckinghamshire and surrounding areas. The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering high-quality, patient-centred care while contributing to the ongoing development and expansion of Gastroenterology services across the Trust. The post is based at Stoke Mandeville Hospital and Wycombe Hospital, with service commitments across the Trust as required. Outpatient clinics are also provided at Amersham Hospital, and the successful candidate may be required to undertake clinical activities across multiple sites to support service delivery. The post attracts 10 Programmed Activities (PAs) per week and may be suitable for applicants seeking full-time, part-time, flexible working or job-share arrangements. Maintenance of the highest standards in the care of patients with Gastroenterology conditions To share with colleagues responsibility for the day to day management of our Gastroenterology Department To actively participate in both departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance and Audit To have responsibility for ensuring active participation in continuing professional development (CPD). Flexibility of duties is expected i.e. assisting with emergency endoscopy. The post holders will also contribute to the out-of-hours endoscopy rota. Person specification

Essential

MB, BS or equivalent GMC registered qualifications
CCT/CCST in Gastroenterology
Registration on GMC Specialist Register in CCT/CCST in general (internal) medicine or acute medicine OR within six months of achieving CCT/CCST at the time of interview
High quality diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy and colonoscopy
High quality skills in general and acute medicine including MRCP
General training in gastro & GIM to specialist level or equivalent
5 years WTE minimum at SpR level in higher specialty training
Ability to make decisions at consultant level
Sufficient leadership, organisational, communication, professional and personal skills to effectively undertake the role of consultant
Team worker
Good personal and interpersonal skills
Ability to work flexibly and adapt to increasing needs of service
Good communication and written English.
Experience of teaching doctors in training and undergraduated
Experience of clinical audit/research

Desirable

Potential to develop leadership skills beyond the medical team to departmental/unit lead
Management training and experience
Computing skills
Communication skills training
Proven ability to produce audit/research for presentation at national level
Appropriate higher degree (eg. MD, PHD or equivalent)
