About the role

We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated individual to join the Obstetrics and Gynaecology team at the West Middlesex Site of Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.We wish to appoint a suitably trained and experienced doctor with NHS experience at ST3 -7 level as a SeniorClinicalFellowto work as aSeniorRegistrar with a special interest in any of the following: Benign abdominal surgery - Open and Laparoscopic,Maternal Medicine and Obstetric Research,Medical Education with Quality Improvement in Postnatal and Bereavement Care, Outpatient Hysteroscopy and Ambulatory Gynaecology. The successful candidate will carry out clinical duties within all areas of the obstetrics and gynaecology department and will also be expected to contribute to the SpR on call Rota. They will be provided with an Educational Supervisor. Applicants are invited to apply as soon as possible with a proposed start date in early 2026. The successful candidate should be registered with the GMC and should have relevant NHS experience to work at the level of ST3 -7 within a busy Obstetrics and Gynaecology unit. The successful candidate will carry out clinical duties within all areas of the obstetrics and gynaecology department.

The appointee will also be expected to see patients under consultant supervision in the outpatient clinics including the one-stop scan clinics, specialist gynaecology clinics and the early pregnancy/acute gynaecology unit. There will also be opportunities to complete the intermediate gynaecology ultrasound scanning and hysteroscopy modules. Partake in elective obstetric procedures and general gynaecological surgery including the day case and inpatient elective surgery.

It is expected that the successful candidate will undertake clinical audits and undertake quality improvement projects (QIP) under consultant supervision. The Chelsea Centre for Minimally Invasive Gynaecology is based in the department offering global training and tuition in endoscopic surgery, and successful candidates can join our courses, training and innovative programmes.

When on call the post holder will be on the three-tier rota covering obstetrics and gynaecology in a 1:8 on out of hours call frequency as the Senior Registrar. A Specialty Trainee ST3-5 and Speciality Trainee ST2-5 also cover out of hours alongside the Senior Registrar.

Person specification

Essential

Advanced Life Support training completed within six months prior to appointment
Ability to present a Sound knowledge and experience in the management of critically ill patients
Putting patients first
Responsive to, and supportive of, patients and staff
Open, welcoming and honest
Unfailingly kind, treating everyone with respect, compassion and dignity
Determined to develop our skills and continuously improve the quality of care
Full GMC registration with a license to practice
Primary medical qualification recognised by GMC
MBBS or equivalent
Evidence of ongoing CPD
12 months middle grade/Registrar-level experience in NHS O&G practice
Minimum ST5-level experience (or equivalent) in Obstetrics & Gynaecology
Experience in acute gynaecology and emergency care
Experience in Labour Ward management, including escalation and decision-making
Ability to work safely and independently at senior registrar level with Consultant support
Competence in operative vaginal delivery appropriate to experience
Competence in managing common obstetric and gynaecological emergencies
Competences signed off for nonrotational forceps and rotational vacuum delivery
Understanding of clinical governance and patient safety principles
Participation in audit and/or quality improvement projects
Professional, supportive approach to colleagues and patients
Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Demonstrates professionalism, integrity, and reliability
Ability to act as a senior decision-maker and role model

Desirable

Certificate in Good Clinical Practice
Analytical skills
Ability to present at conferences and seminars with authority and coherence

Working towards completion of MRCOG
MRCOG Part 3
Gynaecological ultrasound intermediate competencies
Experience in a UK DGH maternity unit
