About the role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated doctor to join our multidisciplinary clinical team at St Helens Hospital as a Resident Clinical Fellow (FY2/FY3 Equivalent) in Acute & Integrated Care. This innovative rotational post offers broad-based experience across intermediate care, perioperative medicine, emergency response, oncology and haematology services, providing an excellent development opportunity for doctors seeking additional experience prior to specialty training, GP training, CESR progression, or further clinical career development. The post holder will rotate across several clinical environments over a 12-month period and will: Assess, investigate, diagnose and manage patients under appropriate supervision Participate in ward rounds, MDT meetings, board rounds and clinical handovers Manage a designated group of patients with appropriate escalation to senior clinicians Recognise and respond to deteriorating patients Participate in emergency response activity including 2222 calls Request and interpret investigations appropriately Contribute to discharge planning and patient flow management Maintain accurate clinical documentation and safe prescribing practice Work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams The role includes placements within: Duffy Suite - Intermediate Care/Rehabilitation Sanderson Suite - Surgical Day Case Ward Emergency Response Team Lilac Centre - Oncology & Haematology Services The successful candidate will also be encouraged to participate in: Teaching activities Audit and Quality Improvement projects Leadership development opportunities Specialty clinic and theatre attendance where service permits

Applicants must hold full registration with the GMC at the time of application with as licence to practice
MBBS, MBChB or equivalent recognised medical qualification
Current ALS certification
Evidence of Foundation competencies or equivalent experience by commencement date
Experience working within acute hospital settings
Ability to assess and manage acutely unwell patients
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Evidence of effective multidisciplinary team working
Understanding of clinical governance and audit principles
Ability to use electronic patient record systems
Ability to prioritise workload and work under pressure

Desirable

Additional postgraduate qualification
ALS Instructor status
Completion of UK Foundation Programme
Experience in surgery, oncology, rehabilitation, perioperative care or acute medicine
Experience responding to emergency calls
Experience teaching junior staff or students
Leadership or supervisory experience
Participation in completed QI/audit projects

Experience using NHS EPR systems

Experience coordinating patient flow or discharge planning

Demonstrated leadership capability
