About the role

Trust Grade Fellow in Ophthalmology (Medical Retina)Applications are invited for the above post which offers advanced specialist training in Medical Retinasub-specialty, to be based at the Leicester Royal Infirmary, at the University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust. The post is to commence as soon as possible for a fixed-term period of one year.

The successful appointee will be expected to participate in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and clinical audit. They will be required to undertake management duties and work in a multidisciplinary team. The appointee will have a principle interest in Medical Retinasub-specialty. Please note, the job description contains an illustrative job plan, and the final timetable will be discussed and agreed upon appointment. The appointee will join an active and enthusiastic team of 28 Ophthalmologists, and 6 specialty doctors both generalist and sub-specialist Ophthalmology services are provided within UHL.

Person specification

Essential

Full and specialist registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) or eligible for specialist registration within six months of interview or Holder of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or evidence of within six months of award of CCT or equivalent by date of interview
Adequate training in Ophthalmology
Excellent clinical skills and experience requisite to meeting all aspects of the Job Plan.
Ability to apply sound clinical judgment to problems
Demonstrates clear, logical thinking / analytical approach.
Emergency eye casualty experience
Extensive experience in Medical Retina
Demonstrable skills in written and spoken English that is adequate to enable effective communication with patients and colleagues
To be empathic and sensitive; capacity to take others perspectives and treat others with understanding.
Ability to work to overcome barriers to change (negotiating, influencing and persuasion skills).
Ability to effectively organise, prioritise and manage clinical workload
Able to demonstrate a commitment to and understanding of the importance of treating all individuals with dignity and respect appropriate to their individual needs. All staff are expected to engage in compassionate and inclusive leadership in the provision of high quality care and interactions with others
Must be able to demonstrate behaviours consistent with the Trust's Values and Behaviours

Desirable

Higher academic qualification (fellowship/s within the subspecialty)
Evidence of a special interest in Medical Retina and expertise that complements those of other doctors in the Department
Evidence of clinical or research commitment and a relevant specialty interest.
High standard of presentation both written and verbal
Demonstrable track record of successful change management
Proven ability to maintain focus in a demanding environment
Evidence of management and administration experience.
Management training on an accredited course.
