About the role
The Locum Consultant will join the regional Children's Heart Unit at the University Hospital of Wales, providing specialist paediatric cardiology services for children and families across South and Mid Wales. This full-time locum post (10 sessions: 9 Direct Clinical Care and 1 Supporting Professional Activity) is a maternity leave cover within the Children & Women's Services Clinical Board. The post holder will deliver high-quality inpatient, outpatient and outreach care, including the assessment, diagnosis and management of congenital and acquired heart conditions. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team of consultant cardiologists, specialist nurses and allied health professionals, they will contribute to safe, effective and patient-centred services. The role includes close collaboration with Bristol Children's Hospital and other tertiary partners. Responsibilities include outpatient clinics, inpatient reviews, ward rounds, multidisciplinary team meetings, clinical governance, audit and quality improvement activities. The successful candidate will support teaching, training and supervision of junior medical staff and contribute to the ongoing development of paediatric cardiology services across the region. Participation in the 1:6 on-call rota is required.
