About the role
The James Paget University Hospital (JPUH) NHS Foundation Trust is looking to appoint a consultant in Gastroenterology for a newly created position. The appointed candidate will be responsible for delivering a comprehensive gastroenterology service, including ward management, outpatient clinics, and endoscopy, in collaboration with the six existing consultants. There is flexibility to adapt the role to incorporate sub-specialty interests, and while dual accreditation in gastroenterology and general internal medicine (GIM) is preferred, it is not mandatory.
The Consultant Gastroenterologist will share responsibility for the delivery of a comprehensive gastroenterology service with consultant colleagues, including providing mutual cover for out-of-hours duties and leave. The role includes offering expert consultation and advisory support to colleagues across other specialties, working collaboratively through multidisciplinary meetings, and contributing to postgraduate education within the Trust. The post holder will play an active role in teaching, audit, research, clinical governance, and continuing professional development in line with Royal College of Physicians requirements. They will contribute to the effective management and development of the service, with opportunities to undertake leadership roles, and will work in accordance with the agreed consultant job plan, deploying flexible professional time to support emergency care, liaison activities, education, audit, and service improvement.
