About the role
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced General Practitioner with an Extended Role (GPwER) in Symptomatic Breast Assessment to join the Oxford University Hospitals Breast Service on a 12-month fixed-term basis. The postholder will support the delivery of symptomatic and Urgent Suspected Cancer (USC) breast services, providing specialist assessment and management of patients within consultant-led pathways. Working as part of the multidisciplinary team, the GPwER will contribute to one-stop breast clinics and triple assessment services, helping to improve patient access, support delivery of the 28-Day Faster Diagnosis Standard and enhance pathway efficiency. Working closely with Consultant Breast Surgeons, Radiologists, Breast Care Nurses and administrative teams, the successful candidate will assess, investigate and manage patients presenting with benign and symptomatic breast conditions, supporting timely diagnosis and high-quality patient-centred care. This post forms part of an ongoing service improvement programme to increase weekday breast clinic capacity, reduce reliance on premium-cost weekend insourced activity and support a sustainable workforce model. The successful candidate will be a GMC-registered General Practitioner with relevant experience in breast disease, excellent communication skills and a commitment to delivering safe, high-quality care within a multidisciplinary breast service.
