Consultant in Acute Medicine

We are seeking an enthusiastic, motivated, and committed individual to join our dynamic and expanding team of Acute Medicine consultants in Leeds. Our growing service aims to deliver a high-quality, consultant-led model of care that meets the needs of our patients.

We provide care across two Acute Medical Units (61 beds) and a co-located 4-bedded High Observation Area. As a large teaching hospital with tertiary services, separate takes operate for some specialties, including elderly medicine. Acute Medicine manages approximately 30 admissions per day.

Our Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) unit is a purpose-built facility, co-located with the Emergency Department and opened in 2023. It delivers a 7-day service, seeing around 500 patients per week, alongside a well-established ambulatory VTE pathway.

This post supports the continued development of a consultant-led service, with daily consultant review for all inpatients, alongside dedicated consultant input into SDEC and Emergency Department in-reach. This model supports early expert decision maker review, admission avoidance, and appropriate patient redirection. The successful applicant will work across all areas of Acute Medicine (AMU, enhanced care, SDEC, and ED in-reach) and contribute to the out-of-hours rota (currently 1:10).
