About the role

An opportunity has arisen within the Royal National Ear, Nose & Throat Hospital & Eastman Dental Hospital for an 4PA Locum Consultant in Paediatric Dentistry for period of 12 months. The post is only available on Wednesdays and Fridays. The role offers a fantastic opportunity to become part of an established team with an international reputation within the speciality of Paediatric dentistry.

The post is based at the Royal National ENT & Eastman Dental Hospitals in London, part of the Specialist Hospitals Board of University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Successful applicants will join consultant colleagues as part of a wider established team providing a full range of paediatric dental services, postgraduate training and research. Applicants will be expected to have excellent communication skills, a high level of clinical experience and knowledge of paediatric dentistry and enthusiasm for postgraduate teaching and training.

Candidates will need to be on the Specialist Register of the General Dental Council for Paediatric Dentistry by date of appointment.

The post holder would work 4PA within the Paediatric Dental Department of the Eastman Dental Hospital (part of RNENT & Eastman Dental Hospitals, UCLH NHS Foundation Trust) on Wednesdays and Fridays. Duties will include diagnosis and treatment planning, treatment under general anaesthetic and sedation, supervision of trainees and post graduate students and involvement in multidisciplinary clinics which may include hypodontia, ortho-paeds, anomalies and oral medicine. There may also be an expectation to be involved with assisting in remote advice clinics.

Essential

Full registration with the United Kingdom General Dental Council (GDC)
On the UK GDC Specialist List in Paediatric Dentistry
Membership in Paediatric Dentistry, or equivalent
Possession of a Certificate of Accreditation or eligibility for a CCST in Paediatric Dentistry
Intercollegiate Specialty Fellowship Exit Examination in Paediatric Dentistry (ISFE), or equivalent, before commencing consultant post
All aspects of paediatric dentistry care with particular emphasis on the management of severe and complex problems.
Understanding and management of patients with multidisciplinary problems and ability to coordinate care with other disciplines and other health care providers.
Experience with a wide range of orthodontic techniques and materials.
Experience of innovative treatments. High quality management of patients with advanced needs in Paediatric Dentistry demonstrated by successful outcomes.
Effective and ongoing participation in Audit by demonstration of completed audits.
Effective involvement with clinical governance
A 2 year additional training period post CCST in a SAC-approved training programme, to gain knowledge and experience of healthcare delivery in secondary care, or equivalent
Understanding of the delivery of healthcare within the NHS.
Experience of working with and managing teams and liaising with colleagues.
Knowledge and understanding of the NHS policies and procedures.
Ability to appraise scientific literature critically
Application of evidence based practice to clinical care
Experience of chairside clinical teaching and training of postgraduates and junior staff.
Experience of lectures, presentations and formal teaching to a variety of clinical groups.
Commitment to training and CPD
Communication; ability to communicate intelligently and with clarity in written and spoken English; ability to build rapport, listen, persuade/ negotiate.

Desirable

Fellowship in Dental Surgery or Membership of the Faculty of Dental Surgery, or equivalent.
Successful completion of an SAC-approved 3-year minimum training programme in Paediatric Dentistry
Experience of audit supervision of others and leading audit programmes
Evidence of innovative service developments, care pathways
Experience of managing, or assisting in the management of, healthcare delivery within the NHS.
Evidence of contribution to the management of healthcare delivery at a departmental level.
Publications in refereed Journals
