About the role
The unit is a well recognised centre for advanced training in Breast and Reconstructive Microsurgery, Hand and Complex Limb Trauma reconstruction, Burns acute management and late reconstruction, and Cleft surgery. St Andrews Centre is also a regional tertiary centre for Head and Neck cancer services for the Essex region.
Senior Fellows appointed to these Clinical Fellowships will be attached to various Consultant Plastic Surgeons for six-month periods to gain further training in the particular expertise of those consultants. These are not recognised training posts, however, senior plastic surgery trainees from both home and abroad are invited to apply. Any successful applicant would be expected to work as an integral part of Skin Cancer, Hand and Trauma surgical teams and would take on considerable responsibility for patients under the care of the Consultant for whom he or she is working. The successful applicant would also be involved in research and would be encouraged to present and publish papers.
In terms of skin cancer, successful fellows will be supporting Prof Dziewulski, Mr. El-Muttardi, Mr. Khan and Mr. Mopuri in the management of large number of patients with complex skin cancer presentations. Practice will involve parotidectomies, neck, axilla and ilio-inguinal lymph-node dissections, sentinel lymph-node biopsies and complex reconstruction of major defects with locoregional and free flaps.
