About the role

We are delighted to offer an exciting opportunity for a Clinical Teaching Fellow in Paediatrics based at Musgrove Park Hospital, Taunton. This post is ideal for a middle grade paediatric doctor who wishes to develop their skills in undergraduate medical education within a supportive, well established teaching environment. The role provides dedicated teaching time with no mandatory clinical commitment, allowing the post holder to focus on high quality education for students from the University of Bristol and Peninsula Medical School during their Child Health placements. Opportunities to undertake additional clinical work via the staff bank are available if desired. The post is jointly supported by the University of Bristol Academy and Peninsula Medical School and is hosted by Somerset NHS Foundation Trust, an integrated trust providing acute, community, mental health and learning disability services across Somerset.

The post holder will: Deliver undergraduate teaching in paediatrics for medical students from the University of Bristol and Peninsula Medical School Support students through bedside teaching, clinical skills teaching, tutorials, simulation and classroom based sessions Act as a mentor, providing informal educational and pastoral support to medical students on placement Contribute to induction, assessment and feedback of students Work collaboratively with consultant educators and fellow Clinical Teaching Fellows Participate in educational audit, quality improvement projects and governance activities Uphold safeguarding, equality and diversity, confidentiality and clinical governance standards at all times The role is split broadly across two days per week for each medical school, with timetables supported by experienced teaching teams. Education and development All Clinical Teaching Fellows are: Strongly encouraged to undertake a Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education, fully funded by the Academy Offered a funded place on the Somerset NHS Foundation Trust Simulation "Training the Trainers" course Allocated an Educational Supervisor and provided with annual appraisal support Additional information The post runs for12 months from August 2026 Annual leave should preferably be taken outside university term time Flexible working arrangements can be discussed

Person specification

Essential

MBBS or recognised equivalent
Full GMC Registration
Minimum 2 years NHS experience in a clinical post
Teaching experience of undergraduates, resident doctors or other health care professionals
Good communication skills
Works well in a team
Experience in clinical governance and audit

Desirable

MRCPCH or equivalent postgraduate paediatric qualification
ST4 level or above
At least 2years experience of practicing in paediatrics
Evidence of post graduate teaching qualification
Experience in providing pastoral support to colleagues
