About the role

The Emergency Department at Nottingham University Hospitals' NHS Trust is excited to be recruiting to our CESR (Certificate of Eligibility of Specialist Registration ) Fellowship Training Programme, offering an opportunity for a motivated doctor to join our dynamic and friendly Emergency Medicine team. Our CESR workforce currently has 5 fellows in the programme and we are looking to increase the team.

Depending on your level, upon commencement, you may begin working on our Tier 3 rota and in your first year, you will aim to experience both adult and paediatric ED. After 12 months and a review of your achievements with the CESR Lead (which will include assessing your capacity to work as a senior decision maker) we can look to progress you to the Tier 4 rota and start to plan your placements in other specialities.

If you have achieved your IAC (anaesthesia rotation) elsewhere in the NHS and have been working in a Senior Clinical Fellow capacity then we can consider your commencement on the Tier 4 rota (which is our registrar rota).Please note this in your application

Initially, we would offer a 1 year contract and after this time and a review we will look to offer a further 2 year contract extension and entry onto the CESR pathway.

At NUH, we would employ you as a Junior or Senior Clinical Fellow for the first year in the role. This enables you to have time to settle in and acclimatise to the busy department. Towards the end of this period and after review and assessments, if mutually agreed you will be able to move into the CESR programme.

The CESR programme will be expected to require around 4 years for its completion. During this time, you will work through competencies to gain the necessary skills and knowledge and develop a portfolio of evidence to meet the requirement of the Emergency Medicine CCT curriculum. We will allocate rotations through Acute Medicine, Intensive Care, Anaesthesia and Paediatric Emergency Medicine to enable you to acquire specialist knowledge and skills in these areas. In the Emergency Department you will work under the clinical direction of EM Consultants who are present in the department 24/7.

This service provided by Emergency Medicine is based at the QMC campus of NUH. You will join a twenty-four hour a day, seven days a week roster, managing adult and paediatric emergency attendances.

Located in one of the friendliest and greenest cities in the UK, Nottingham University Hospitals Trust (NUH) is a Major Trauma Centre and our ED is one of the busiest in Europe, seeing 179,940 new patients a year across co-located adult and Childrens and Young People's departments.

NUH consists of the Queen's Medical Centre (QMC) and the Nottingham City Hospital Campuses. QMC houses our Emergency Department which has co-located adult and children's units. NUH is the Major Trauma Centre for the East Midlands region.

Our forward thinking, research active Emergency Department is one of the busiest in Europe with 195,000 new attendances annually. The Children's ED sees 44,000 children and young people and has expanded its resuscitation capability with a major capital investment.

Nottingham is a haven for sports lovers and nature lovers. Person specification

Essential

MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
GMC Registration (including current licence to practice)
ALS and ATLS provider
MRCEM
Completion of Foundation training (or equivalent training)
At least five years post MBBS (or equivalent)
At least three years working in ED in the NHS is essential at CT3 (or higher) level
Evidence of active involvement in design and running of relevant clinical audit
Leading or being involved in a change in process/ demonstrate delegation skills
Experience of presenting case reports, audit or research results
Ability to cope with stressful situations and undertake responsibility.
Demonstrable skills in spoken English, adequate to enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues
Demonstrate understanding of key principles around clinical governance, capacity, consent, duty of candour.
Able to make an initial a management plan for an unwell patient

Desirable

ALS Instructor
IAC sign off (for senior role)
Experience in a large acute hospital (more than 1000 beds)
Experience leading junior medical colleagues in the NHS
