About the role
Clinical Fellow (ST3 equivalent- essential criteria MRCP and NHS experience) working within the Infection care group across infectious diseases and medical microbiology roles. This role may encompass ward Infectious Disease cover, Infectious Disease and HIV clinics, Outpatient Parenteral Antibiotic Service (OPAT), Laboratory results authorisation and interpretation, telephone and bedside consults, Infection Control, Bacteraemia and chronic infection service, Virology, and ITU liaison. The postholder will participate in the on-call service for Infection once an appropriate level of training has been achieved. Consultant advice is available always during such service. Clinical management: This role may be in Medical Microbiology or Infectious Diseases (ID). Within Microbiology the role involves :(1) Result authorisation and telephone advice to doctors and other health professionals in the hospital and community; (2) Blood culture service and infection consults; (3) intensive care unit liaison; (4) hospital infection control; (5) antibiotic stewardship; (5) Virology; (6) OPAT and management of chronic infections. Within ID the role involves: To appropriately assess, investigate and manage acutely ill patients presenting to St George's Hospital with community-acquired and imported infection, tuberculosis and HIV and associated opportunistic infections. Participation in a general ID outpatient clinic may be done in rotation with SHOs. The infection department has also played a major part in our hospitals Covid-19 response and you may be rotated to Covid-19 wards.
