About the role

An exciting opportunity has risen for a Specialty Doctor to join the fantastic Community Drug and Alcohol Team for the Rhondda and Merthyr Localities of Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board. This would involve working with the team base at Trealaw Resource Centre & Kier Hardie Health Park

The post holder will be operationally based in the CDAT.

The post holder will be expected to work at other CTMUHB sites and elsewhere in the community, including patients’ homes from time to time

•Provide senior clinical input to the assessment and management of patients referred to the service.

•Work with other members of the clinical team to review referred patients and advise on management.

•Provide day to day clinical support to the CT3 trainee doctor.

•Participate in and contribute to regular team meetings.

•Liaise and communicate effectively with members of the team, other teams and services within the Directorate, other hospital departments and with external agencies (including, but not restricted to, General Practitioners, Social Services. And other Services) by whatever means are appropriate.

•Maintain appropriate clinical records and undertake necessary correspondence and administration.

•Support the team for the management of controlled drug prescriptions within the service

•Support the team with routine administrative duties.

•Write reports as required.

Person specification

Essential

• Full GMC Registration
• MBBS/MBBS or equivalent
• Eligible to apply for s12 (2) approval.
• Comprehensive training and experience in psychiatry
• 3 years’ experience to CT3 level
• Experience in addictions psychiatry
• Familiarity with UK hospital systems and practice
• Good communication skills (oral, written and interpersonal)
• Competence in current assessment and treatment
• Competence in risk assessment and management
• Ability to practice independently
• Understanding of clinical risk management and clinical governance.
• Evidence of having undertaken audit
• Ability to supervise staff effectively
• Evidence of having delivered postgraduate teaching
• Proven commitment to team approach and multi-disciplinary working.
• Capacity to work under pressure and respond flexibly to varying demands.
• Good organisational skills.

Desirable

• Additional relevant postgraduate qualification
• S.12(2) approval
• Approved Clinician or eligible for Welsh Approved Clinician approval
• More than 3 years’ experience to CT3 or higher level in a relevant specialty
• Computing skills
• Understanding of relevant clinical, legal and policy issues
• Evidence of service wide audit with significant and lasting impact on practice
• Evidence of service development

• Proven capability to initiate and undertake original work

• Management and administrative experience

• Experience of teaching medical students
