About the role

1 fixed term post in Infectious Diseases/Tropical Medicine at UCLH is available from 5.8.26- 3.8.27.

The post involves working in the inpatient ward teams under the supervision of Infectious diseases Consultants. This provides a unique opportunity to work in the national referral centre from Tropical Medicine and tertiary Infectious Diseases service.

This post would be ideal for someone who is looking to gain experience in Tropical Medicine/Infectious Diseases with a view to pursuing specialty training in Infectious Diseases.

The key responsibility is to work in the inpatient infection service at UCLH and support the HIV service based at the Mortimer market centre. This provides unparalleled experience of managing tropical and imported infections as well as complex UK acquired infection and care patients living with HIV both as inpatient and outpatient care. The posts includes attendance at the rich program of learning and training opportunities throughout the week.

Additionally, the successful candidates will be on the on call rota for Infectious Diseases at registrar level this , including ward cover for ID inpatients, and admitting referrals to ID from the Emergency Department, as well as providing advice over the phone to referring hospitals with the support of the on call consultant. The post will allow for valuable experience managing infectious presentations as well as strengthening core general medical skills.

Person specification

Essential

Completion of all parts of MRCP
Completion of internal medicine training or equivalent competencies
Ability to manage common acute and chronic infectious diseases
Good practical skills
Ability to teach and train junior staff
Evidence of commitment to pursue a career in infectious diseases or related specialties
Evidence of participation in audit and quality improvement
Being familiar with, and adhering to Trust policies and guidance on infection prevention and control.
Completing all required training and education (both via e-learning and face to face) on infection prevention and control.
Including infection prevention and control as an integral part of your continuous personal/professional development and included in your annual appraisal
Taking personal responsibility so far as is reasonably practicable, in helping ensure that effective prevention and control of health care associated infections is embedded into everyday practice and applied consistently.
Experience in clinical infectious diseases including imported infections
Excellent communication skills
Demonstratable understanding of the Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion and/or Knowledge of the NHS obligations under the Equality Act 2010 and the Public Sector Equality Duties

Desirable

Completion of an in person Diploma in Tropical Medicine and Hygiene
Experience of working with the Electronic health record system used at UCH -EPIC
