Consultant in Emergency Medicine

Applications are invited for a substantive full-time (10 PA) Consultant in Emergency Medicine at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Gateshead. This is an exciting opportunity to join a forward-thinking, innovative Emergency Department with an established reputation for high-quality patient care, education, quality improvement and service development. The successful candidate will join a supportive team of twelve Emergency Medicine Consultants and one Specialist Doctor delivering consultant-led emergency care within one of the North East's most integrated Emergency Care Centres. We particularly welcome applicants with subspecialty interests or expertise that will complement and strengthen our existing team, and we are committed to supporting consultants in developing their own clinical, educational, leadership and research interests.

The appointed Consultant will be expected to collaborate with multidisciplinary professional colleagues to strive to ensure the best, most streamlined levels of care for our patients. We operate an open and honest culture within the organisation.They are expected to observe the Trusts agreed policies and procedures, and to follow the approved standing orders, financial instructions and standards of conduct. In particular, where they manage employees of the Trust, they will be expected to follow both national employment law and local people policies and procedures. They will be expected to make sure that there are adequate arrangements for hospital staff involved in care of patients to be able to contact them when on call.There are opportunities for the appointed consultant to develop a specialist interest to complement the department and Trust.
