About the role

The Trust is seeking to appoint a Consultant in Neurology with a special interest in movement disorders, particularly Parkinson's disease. The postholder will be committed to delivering high-quality, patient-centred care, supporting innovative service models, achieving performance standards, and contributing to education and training. This post will support the continued delivery and development of the neurology service, helping to maintain low waiting times while expanding specialist provision for patients with movement disorders. The role includes delivery of general neurology outpatient clinics alongside dedicated specialist clinics in complex Parkinson's disease and movement disorders. The postholder will contribute to the established movement disorders service, working closely with Care of the Elderly and multidisciplinary teams to provide integrated care for patients with complex needs. In addition to outpatient activity, the role includes participation in ward referral reviews and the Advice and Refer service, supporting timely specialist input and effective patient pathways. The appointee will have continuing clinical responsibility for patients under their care and will be expected to contribute to multidisciplinary team meetings, teaching and supervision of junior staff, and service development initiatives within the Directorate. Person specification

Essential

Full registration with the General Medical Council and acceptance on the GMC Specialist Register MRCP(UK) or an equivalent qualification. CCST in Neurology or within 6 months of accreditation
Appropriate training in General Neurology and movement disorders fields
Recent experience and familiarity of UK hospital systems and practices (or equivalent)
Comprehensive and detailed knowledge of neurological disorders
Clinical expertise in movement disorder, particularly in device-aided therapies, toxin botulinum injection and oral treatment prescription
Competence across whole UK neurological curriculum
Demonstrable ability to run an effective clinical service for people with particularly movement disorders
Demonstrate an ability to implement treatment plans involving device-aided therapies for patients with Parkinson's disease
Ability to take responsibility, lead, make decisions and respond appropriately to service needs
Awareness of the overall business environment in which the hospitals operate
Understanding of the importance of good clinical coding
Evidence of having worked and being able to communicate within an Interdisciplinary / multispecialty service with appropriate levels of communication through direct discussions with team members, MDT meetings, and presentations to the team
Involvement in and understanding of the Clinical Governance Experience of audit and willingness to institute audit exercises
Ability and commitment to teaching undergraduate and postgraduate doctors in training
Proven ability and commitment to carry out high quality research, leading to publication in peer-reviewed journals
Understanding of and proven ability to apply research findings in a clinical/organisational context
Knowledge of Research ethics and committed to incorporating the highest standards of research governance
Understanding of principles and application of clinical research
Ability to communicate with clarity and intelligently in written and spoken
English IT skills and computer literacy

Desirable

PhD in Neurosciences and MD or equivalent specialist training
Demonstrates breadth of experience and awareness in and outside specialty
Clinical experience in complex patients with Parkinson's disease and candidate selection for device-aided therapies
Demonstrate an ability to identify and organise the specific clinical investigations and onward referrals relevant to the post
Familiar with current structure of the health service and conversant with recent initiatives and changes
Experience in running Multidisciplinary Team Meetings in Parkinson's disease involving
Management of team or programme or project
Evidence of being able to engage and communicate at a National and International level
