About the role
The Trust is seeking an experiencedConsultant Gastroenterologist with a Specialist Interest in Bowel Cancer Screening Programmeand EMR polypectomy who will be based atBasildon University Hospital, with cross-site working across Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust as required. The post holder will work closely with colorectal surgery, oncology, radiology, anaesthetics, and specialist nursing teams, contributing to multidisciplinary team meetings (colorectal and complex Polyp MDTs) and supporting streamlined patient pathways. The consultant will also play a role ineducation and training, supporting endoscopy training where appropriate, supervising gastroenterology trainees and endoscopy staff, and contributing to departmental teaching programmes. The role includes active participation inclinical governance, audit, quality improvement, appraisal, and revalidation, with an expectation of professional leadership, innovation, and commitment to delivering excellent patient-centred care in line with the values of Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust. This post will also support Outpatient transformation and Gastroenterology and Endoscopy recovery and help the department to achieve the referral to treatment (RTT) 18-week targets, 2-week wait, and 28, 31 and 62 day faster diagnostic standards reducing diagnostic and cancer waiting times.
