POST OF: Consultant Orthopaedic Knee Surgeon with an interest in Revision Knee Arthroplasty A post as a Consultant Orthopaedic Knee surgeon is available now at theNuffield Orthopaedic Centre. The appointment is on a substantive basis, applications are welcome from those who wish to job share. Candidates are highly recommended to visit the department and hospital and meet the team. The Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre, part of Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust would like to appoint a Substantive Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon as part of a planned expansion to join a dynamic team of consultant hip and knee orthopaedic surgeons. We have a vacancy in the Trauma, Orthopaedic & Rheumatology Directorate for a consultant orthopaedic surgeon with special interest in knee arthroplasty, revision knee arthroplasty and management of prosthetic joint infections. The appointee will be expected to work closely with the knee lead to support the Major Revision Knee Network for Thames Valley as well helping the Bone Infection Unit in the multidisciplinary team management of patients with prosthetic joint infections around the knee joint. The appointee will be expected to participate in the on-call rota and may be required to work on any other site as required by the OUH Trust in the future.

Person specification

Essential

GMC Specialist Register in Orthopaedic Surgery or within six months of achieving CCT in Orthopaedic Surgery at the time of interview
Registered with GMC/FRCS (Tr&Orth) or equivalent
General training in Orthopaedic including hip and knee surgery
Minimum 18 months Hip and Knee experience during training. Including primary and revision arthroplasty surgery, the management of complex knee arthroplasty and management of failed knee replacements
Full registration and licence to practise
Minimum 18 months of specialist knee experience
General training in Orthopaedic surgery to specialist level or equivalent
Evidence of ability to make decisions at consultant level and to manage complex clinical problems.
Excellent leadership skills. Evidence of ability to lead a clinical team at the level of a consultant in a teaching hospital.
Effective administrative and time management skills. Training in clinical management.
Knowledge of the organisation of the NHS and the Government's agenda.
Evidence of significant contribution to successful teamwork
Computing skills, ability to use word processor, spreadsheet programs and web browser
Evidence of effective and Good spoken and written English. Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills.sustained contribution to clinical governance, clinical risk management and clinical audit activities
Experience of teaching undergraduates and trainees and of routine clinical audit.
Evidence of effective and sustained contribution to clinical governance, clinical risk management and clinical audit activities
Evidence of publications in knee surgery.
Access to transport

Desirable

Higher medical degree
Fellowship experience in the management of infected joint replacements and periprosthetic fractures around the knee.
Consultant experience working in a major revision centre/unit.
Consultant level experience (Substantive or locum)
Able to work effectively as part of multi-disciplinary team
Evidence of leadership outside of the NHS
Management qualification.
Evidence of experience with electronic patient record and database administration and management
