About the role
The vascular unit is one of the busiest in the region. We perform a wide range of open and endovascular arterial interventions along with the endovenous surgery across the network, providing opportunities to learn and develop broad vascular surgical experience. The Worcestershire and Herefordshire Vascular Unit has gained national recognition since it was established on a hub and spoke basis at WRH in 2002. The service is currently provided by Consultant Surgeons in collaboration with interventional radiologists, vascular anaesthetists, vascular nurse practitioners and vascular scientists. Junior surgical staff is represented at all levels. The unit is a GMC accredited vascular training centre.
The successful candidate will work at ST3-5 level. It is anticipated that the weekly timetable will comprise both timetabled service activity (e.g. ward rounds and outpatient clinics) supporting and overseeing the work of the FH01 and FH02 doctors on the team as well as bleep free procedural training opportunities. Successful candidates will be expected to be on call on a one in six frequency non-resident with prospective cover. Assessment /admission of emergencies in A&E, vascular assessment unit, surgical wards and outlying wards is required when on-call. There will be a responsibility for the maintenance of proper case records and investigations on patients, and correspondence with General Practitioners and others as required.
