Consultant - Haematology Permanent post 10 PA's We have an exciting opportunity to welcome a full-time Consultant into the Haematology team and the successful applicants will join our expanding team of motivated Consultants. This is an exciting opportunity to join the Stockport NHS FT Haematology department during a period of growth following on from significant investment from the Trust. Originally, we had two Haematology Consultants. We are very pleased to confirm that there will now be four in the team, following recruitment to this role. We have also recently invested in other areas of the team including appointing new Clinical Nurse Specialists, a Junior Clinical Fellow, and a Trainee Advanced Clinical Practitioner. All of our multidisciplinary team meetings for lymphoid and myeloid disorders are done with the Christie Hospital who we have a close working relationship with sharing knowledge, learnings and expertise. Outside of the core role, there may be other opportunities that we can explore for those interested, for example becoming a medical appraiser. Stockport is optimally placed with close proximity to Manchester and has very good train links to London. There are very good schools in the private sector, excellent grammar schools, and also very good state schools. For those who enjoy the outdoors, the peak district is also at the doorstep, and the Lake district and Yorkshire dales are within easy reach.

The post-holder will provide comprehensive clinical haematology services across outpatient clinics, day-case activity, inpatient referrals, laboratory liaison, and participation in multidisciplinary meetings. They will jointly manage patients admitted under shared care arrangements and contribute to departmental audit, ongoing research, and quality improvement initiatives. The role includes providing senior clinical decision-making, contributing to service development, and ensuring continuity of care during periods of colleague absence, particularly within day-case activity The post-holder will hold ultimate responsibility for the clinical management of patients with malignant and non-malignant haematological conditions, including oversight of chemotherapy, diagnostic pathways, anticoagulation governance, and inpatient referrals. They will ensure care is evidence-based, safe, and aligned with national standards, with specific responsibility for supporting the delivery of more than 3,500 outpatient attendances and approximately 900 chemotherapy treatments per year. They will also supervise junior staff in the clinical management of patients, support early identification and escalation of deteriorating patients, and ensure high-quality continuity of care across the service.

Essential

Full registration with GMC MRCP
Relevant CCT or entry on specialist register expected within 6 months or applied for entry.
substantial number years training at St3+ level in Haematology Medicine
Wide training in all relevant aspects and significant experience in General Internal Medicine
Daily independent ward rounds on acutely ill patients.
Comprehensive patient management Ability to make decisions at Consultant level and takes full and independent responsibility for the care of patients
Good written and verbal communication skills
Ability to form good professional relationships with all departments
Experience of supervision of junior medical staff and relevant staff
Ability to lead
