About the role

Main duties of the job

• To provide x3 clinics per week

· To provide x1 integrated total pelvic floor ultrasound/ anorectal physiology list per week

• To participate in clinical and other service activities with the object of ensuring a high standard of patient care

• To participate in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training

• Prepare and attend weekly MDM

The post holder will be a full member of the team, partaking in outpatients and management of pelvic floor disorders. The St Thomas Colorectal Unit has particular interests in inflammatory bowel disease surgery with about 80 resections performed each year. There is a strong robotic surgery programme with patients undergoing operations for both cancer and benign disease, including inflammatory bowel disease. The Pelvic floor unit is a tertiary referral unit for the South East of England and with regular MDMs held with the urologists and gynaecologists. The colorectal unit also performs a number of multivisceral resections for advanced and recurrent colorectal cancer in conjunction with the plastics and urological teams

St Thomas’ has six colorectal surgeons providing tertiary level care in a variety of benign and colorectal cancer conditions. The St Thomas Colorectal Unit has particular interests in inflammatory bowel disease surgery with about 80 resections performed each year. There is a strong robotic surgery programme with patients undergoing operations for both cancer and benign disease, including inflammatory bowel disease. The Pelvic floor unit is a tertiary referral unit for the South East of England and with regular MDMs held with the urologists and gynaecologists. Pelvic floor unit includes three consultants, 5 pelvic floor nurses, 2 clinical scientists, 2 pelvic floor physiotherapists.

Qualification in research studies
Ability to work as an effective member of a multidisciplinary team
Up to date clinical knowledge appropriate to current stage of training
Excellent verbal, written, interpersonal & communication skills
Time management and organisation skills
Ability to work independently with guidance/supervision
Experience of undergraduate teaching and post graduate training
Ability to carry out audit and/or quality improvement work
Ability to conduct & evaluate own projects successfully
Understanding of the principles and applications of clinical research
Evidence of understanding of and adherence to the principles of Good Medical Practice set out by the General Medical Council

Desirable

BSc, MSc
Clinical experience with patients undergoing surgery
Clinical experience in outpatient clinics
Evidence of initiative and leadership skills
Familiarity with some relevant literature related to the post
Evidence of working in an outpatient setting
Advanced teaching experience (e.g. organising training days, involvement in regional or national teaching)
Evidence of delivering change through audit loops and/or quality improvement projects

Evidence of original research

Experience in clinical guideline development
