About the role

We are delighted to be able to offer an opportunity for a highly motivated, ambitious individual to join our well integrated team. The post-holder will contribute to the interventional service, including the full range of interventional techniques and provision of Primary PCI on-call cover. They will be allowed to develop other special interests of their choice according to the service needs of the department. The post holder will be expected to work in close collaboration with the existing team of consultant cardiologists, cardiac surgeons, and allied specialities. The post attracts 10 Programmed Activities per week for approximately a 1 in 11 on-call for intervention at Freeman Hospital and 1:16 CCU day cover at RVI Hospital. In addition to the challenges of the role, we can offer you a commitment to teaching, education, research and audit. Candidates for the post must be registered medical practitioners and on, or eligible to join, the Specialist Register within six months of the date of the Appointments Committee. We are advertising for a Substantive Consultant Cardiologist (10 PAs). This is a new post which will be working mainly at the Freeman Hospital Cardiothoracic Unit. The post-holder will have broad general cardiology skills with a special interest in percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). They will be allowed to develop other special interests of their choice according to the service needs of the department. There will be opportunities to develop and contribute to continuing education, professional development, audit and research within the Division and the Trust. There is the expectation of collaborative working with colleagues, allied specialities and liaison with other disciplines throughout the trust and network. Person specification

Essential

Primary Medical Qualification
Full GMC Registration with a licence to practise
Entry onto the GMC Specialist Register (within 6 months from the date of the AAC)
Holder of membership of the Royal College of Physicians or equivalent
Evidence of experience and competency in PCI
Evidence of a substantial commitment to the specialty
Ability to offer an expert clinical opinion within the speciality
Ability to take independent responsibility for the clinical care of patients referred to a tertiary centre
Ability to run a service and participate in management process
Committed to share in professional, managerial and teaching responsibilities necessary to fulfil the obligations of the Directorate to the Trust and its workforce
Evidence of involvement in authoring or reviewing clinical guidelines
Experience of supervising junior medical staff
Experience of participation in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching
Ability to teach clinical, technical and practical skills
Experience of audit projects and Clinical Governance
Understanding of research principles
Ability to communicate and liaise effectively with patients and other people within a team
Ability to work as a team with professional colleagues in all disciplines

Desirable

Higher research degree (MD or PhD)
Special skills training in the specialty
