About the role

We are looking for a Consultant Anaesthetist with an Interest in Thoracic Anaesthesia, Burns Anaesthesia and Critical Care. This post will be based at Morriston Hospital and will include elective lists in Burns and Thoracics as well as one week in 8 on the cardiac intensive care unit (CICU)/ post anaesthetic care unit (PACU).

The successful candidate will join a team of 82 Consultants responsible for the provision of anaesthetic services across the Health Board. The post will be based at Morriston Hospital but may involve sessions at Neath Port Talbot Hospital and Singleton Hospital through 'flexible in year' (FIY) sessions.

The successful applicant will be responsible for the provision of emergency and elective general anaesthesia to the population of SBUHB within the scope of practice reflected in the provisional 'Job Plan' (please see Job Description).

The on-call commitment will be to the hybrid General Rota at Morriston Hospital. This will include burns admissions out of hours and urgent burns surgery in-hours on the weekend. The on-call, out of hours, Consultant Rota is split into 2 tiers. The 1st on-call being the initial responder and the 2nd on-call, who will provide support within the health board, where deemed necessary by the 1st on-call and the clinical requirement at that time. The frequency of weekday on-calls will be 1:16. Weekend cover will be 1 in 8, split between resident 'in hours' and non-resident 'out of hours' work.

Essential

Registered with the GMC
Licensed to practice
CCT in Anaesthesia (or expected within 6 months of interview) or on Specialist Register with GMC (or expected within 6 months of interview)
Advanced Training Module in Thoracic Anaesthesia as part of CCT or equivalent experience and expertise in Thoracic anaesthesia
Fellow of Intensive Care Medicine (FICM) or equivalent qualification/ experience and expertise in Intensive Care Medicine
Experience in anaesthesia for Burns patients
Evidence of an ability to develop effective working relationships, on an individual and multi-disciplinary basis with all levels of staff
Evidence of working with management and clinical colleagues to improve a service
Values partnership with other agencies
Evidence of initiating, progressing and completing audit
Evidence of research in Anaesthesia
Evidence of teaching and training of post/undergraduate clinical staff
Effective leadership: ability to take responsibility and demonstrate leadership when appropriate
Understands the importance of effective Team Working with all levels of staff, take time to listen, understand and involve people; receptive to appropriate change.
Understands and can apply the principles of Prudent Healthcare
