About the role
We are recruiting for a full time, LAS Specialty Registrar in General Surgery to work within the General Surgery Unit at the Royal Berkshire Hospital under supervision of the General Surgery consultants. This is a fixed term post for 12 months. Not sure what to do in August 2026? Not ready to commit to a training programme? Would you like to consider the option of time off to travel yet have the security of employment? Would you like more time and training with a friendly team in a hospital that is interested in your development as a doctor, before you decide on the next step of your career? Have you completed your foundation training but don't yet wish to move onto core training? Do you want to gain new skills or consolidate existing skills, which are usually welcomed at IMT/ST1 level? Do you want to increase your competitiveness at national selection? Are you registered with the General Medical Council? Would you like the opportunity to have a fully funded place to do a Post Graduate Certificate in Medical Education?
The post will provide generous experience of emergency and elective procedures. It is an excellent opportunity for a candidate aspiring to a career in General Surgery. The General Surgical Unit operates a ward-based system and you will be working as part of a team of junior doctors and consultants looking after emergency and elective admissions on GSU and SAU wards. There will be opportunities to attend general surgery outpatients and endoscopy training for suitable candidates.
