About the role

Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is looking to recruit a Consultant Obstetrician/Gynaecologist with a special interest in Gynaecology. An exciting opportunity has arisen to join a friendly and forward thinking obstetric and gynaecology team in a successful Trust in South Yorkshire. It is anticipated that the successful candidate, with the support of the new Gynaecology and Maternity Medicine Network, will help consolidate current services as well as developing further services in line with the national maternity plan and Saving Babies Lives V3. The postholder will also have the opportunity to help take the Gynaecology service forward. There will also be the opportunity to develop a special interest if so desired. 1. Clinical Services

To provide with consultant colleagues, an effective Obstetrics and Gynaecology service to Barnsley Hospital, including:

Working closely with the multidisciplinary team to provide a high quality Obstetric and Gynaecology service

Advising clinical colleagues on matters within his/her sphere of expertise

Liaising with other health care organisations, Social Services, General Practitioners and voluntary organisations as required

Responsibility for keeping services up to date and giving direction to future developments

2. Training and Education To participate in the teaching and training programmes including:

Contributing to postgraduate and continuing medical education activity

Undertaking medical teaching examination and accreditation duties as required

Contributing, to the training of nurses, midwives, paramedical, scientific and technical staff

Participating in the formal appraisal of junior medical staff in accordance with guidelines from the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists and the Postgraduate Dean. A commitment to continued professional development audit and personal appraisal.

3. Clinical Governance To participate in developing a satisfactory and consistent quality of clinical services by establishing appropriate systems, agreeing standards and ensuring standards are met

Person specification

Essential

Full GMC registration
MRCOG or equivalent
CCST or equivalent
Entry on the GMC Specialist Register or eligibility for entry within 12 months of the date of the Advisory Appointments Committee
Benign Gynae ATSM / or Gynae care SITM
Clinical training and experience in general obstetrics and gynaecology equivalent to that required for a UK CCST
Appropriate training in Special interest of choice
Good leadership skills
Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, patients, relatives, GPs, nurses and other agencies
Enthusiasmandabilityto work under pressure
Goodorganisationaland management skills
Supportive and tolerant
Abilitytoworkwithina multidisciplinary team
Caring attitude to patients
Resident within 10 miles or 30 minutes of hospital or willing to stay on site when on call
