About the role

We are looking to appoint to whole time (10PA's) Consultant Radiologist with an interest in Emergency and Gastrointestinal Imaging within the Medical Imaging and Medical Physics Directorate of the Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

The Diagnostic Imaging Service is recruiting one post in order to support acute US, CT and MRI and elective gastrointestinal imaging. The successful candidate will join the existing team of 10 gastrointestinal radiologists as part of the 57 NHS radiologists within the Directorate. On-call commitments can be tailored to the candidate's expertise and training. The current cross-site on-call rota is 1 in 14, with two consultant radiologists covering the on call together, supervising a team of resident radiology registrars. Two sessions of reporting are expected during on-call weekends.

The candidate is expected to have a major interest in Gastrointestinal Imaging with an ability to provide support for the acute CT service for inpatient and Emergency Department patients, and general radiology activity across the Trust.

The post holder will primarily specialise in emergency radiology at the Northern General Hospital, with an interest in gastrointestinal imaging and intervention. The appointee will, together with Consultant colleagues, be responsible for the provision of acute CT, MRI and ultrasound cover for hepatobiliary and lower GI imaging, general inpatient, major trauma and emergency department patients, as well as elective GI outpatient work. They will be required to contribute to the general radiology workload at the Northern General Hospital, and they will be part of a cross site 1 in 14 on-call rota covering both the Northern General and Royal Hallamshire Hospitals.

The successful candidate will work flexibly and co-operatively with other members of the GI and wider diagnostic Imaging team in order to provide a high quality, comprehensive emergency and gastrointestinal radiology service within this teaching hospital environment.

The successful candidate will work according to the term and conditions of the national consultant contract.

Person specification

Essential

Full registration (with a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC).
Name on the specialist register for relevant specialty or eligible within 6 months of the date of the interview If an applicant is UK trained, they must also be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview.
FRCR or equivalent
Evidence of participation in CME/CPD in the last 12 months
Ability to work as an independent practitioner in trauma imaging, acute CT and gastrointestinal imaging.
Possess broad clinical experience in emergency and general CT, ultrasound and MRI.
Completed modules A and B from the National CTC Academy (NCTCA).
Subspecialty interest in hepatobiliary and abdominal imaging, with a career focus in these areas.
Experience of teaching student doctors and doctors in training at all levels
Evidence of the understanding of the systems and structures of NHS Management
Experience in performing clinical audit
Demonstrates behaviour consistent with PROUD values (see below)
Good oral and written communication skills
The applicant must demonstrate skills in listening, reading, writing and speaking the English language that enables effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues as set out in the GMC' good medical practice (2013).
Proficient IT skills.
Ability to critically assess published research and incorporate it into clinical practice where appropriate

MD or PhD or equivalent
Maintenance of a CPD diary or portfolio
Post CCT fellowship in Gastrointestinal imaging.
Abdominal interventional skills.
Experience in US liver elastography
Completion and publication of a substantive audit project or service improvement project
Publications in Peer reviewed journals.
Ideas for future research whilst in post.
