About the role

The haematology service sits within the Haematology & Immunology service line with consultant haematology posts part funded by the Pathology directorate. The consultant haematology team is currently comprised of 11 consultant haematologists (9.43WTE including 0.2WTE research university funded post). This is a new post for a consultant to expand our team with increased myeloma activity and CAR-T development planned in this financial year. The consultant team is supported by 5.8WTE Registrar posts, 1WTE research registrar and 1 registrar teaching fellow. There are in addition 4 junior doctors rotating on a 4-monthly basis through the inpatient ward, these are made of 1 F2 post, 3 IMT1/2 posts and a physician associate. Consultants contribute towards the management of inpatients and outpatients. Patients are formally under the shared care of all consultants as a combined department with responsibility for inpatients managed on a rolling weekly 'attending' rota. All consultants contribute towards the Monday morning ward round hand over meeting. The weekly attending consultant leads a further ward round on a Thursday. The attending consultant of the week is responsible for all inpatients under the care of haematology, including SCT patients. Further advice regarding SCT patients can be sought from the four consultants with specific SCT expertise.

This is a Haemto-oncology post for a clinician with a special interest in myeloma. This post has been created to provide support for the myeloma service and help lead on the introduction of novel therapies for myeloma including the potential for CAR-T therapy. Fixed sessions will include: Myeloma clinic Myeloma trials clinic CLL clinic Participation in CAR-T cell patient assessments and treatment planning. Weekly Monday ward round Weekly Friday departmental integrated diagnostics meeting You will be expected to be on call for a week at a time on a 1 in 8.5 basis, although this may be adjusted to suit those looking to work on a less than full time basis. During an on call week, you will be responsible for all inpatients, new patients and day unit patients. On call duties are supported by a haematology specialist registrar on call. The post will be reimbursed at the rate of 10 PAs for full time appointments. 1.5 are dedicated as SPAs. The post holder will have a commitment to regular teaching at undergraduate, postgraduate and specialist registrar level. The post holder will be expected to undertake adequate and appropriate continuous professional development (CPD) which will be fully supported by Trust funded study leave.

MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
Full GMC Registration with a licence to practice
Applicants, must ALSO be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) , or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview.
To be on the appropriate GMC specialist register for haematology or eligible for admission within six months of interview
Extensive experience and training in general clinical haematology
