About the role

CNWL is looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated Specialty Doctor, based within Shore Ward at Park Royal Centre for Mental Health. This full time positions would be excellent for someone wanting to broaden their experience of acute psychiatry and develop their clinical skills in a supportive and challenging environment.

The postholder will provide overall clinical leadership for the ward's multidisciplinary team as well as direct clinical assessments and consultations. The post holders will be supervised and supported by the ward Consultant Psychiatrists.

The post holder will have a central role in providing medical input within the well-established acute inpatient ward. He or she will work closely with the other members of the multidisciplinary team, in order to ensure that patients are provided with the highest standards of care. You will be supervised and supported by the Consultant Psychiatrist for the ward.

The post holder will be expected to ensure that any leave taken is covered by members of the clinical teams within which you work. The directorate is keen ensure flexible working and you may be asked to undertake additional duties to maintain high quality patient care.

We provide healthcare to a third of London, Milton Keynes and parts of Kent, Surrey and Hampshire. Brent Mental Health Service has been operating as a multi-disciplinary, integrated service since April 2001. The service relates to Brent Adult Social Services department as well as to CNWL and currently includes all generic and specialist Adult services such as forensic, inpatients, psychotherapy and residential services, including the following:- Acute in-patients (3 wards) - Park Royal Centre.- Community Mental Health Teams (CMHT) - organised in three locality CMHT teams (Harness, Kilburn and Kingsbury & Willesden) serving the three primary care networks (PCNs) in the borough - 13-15 Brondesbury Road.- Early Intervention Service - 13-15 Brondesbury Road.- Forensic and Intensive Care Services which include Tasman Ward (Forensic Low Secure, 17 beds), Caspian Ward (PICU, 13 beds) and Java (Forensic Rehabilitation, 6 beds) - Park Royal Centre.- Home Treatment Team (HTT) - Park Royal Centre.- Mental Health Act Team (AMHP Team) - Park Royal Centre.- Psychology and Psychotherapy Services including Clinical Psychologists embedded in the CMHTs and inpatient unit, Arts Psychotherapy, and other specialist family and individual psychotherapies - 13-15 Brondesbury Road.- Range of rehabilitation services, supported tenancy schemes and residential care services .

Essential

oPrimary Medical degree
oFull GMC registration
oCompleted at least four years full time post graduate training (or its equivalent gained on a part time or flexible basis) at least two of which will be in a specialty training programme in a relevant specialty or as a fixed term trainee or have equivalent experience and competencies.
oExtensive experience in the management of a broad range of relevant mental disorders in older adults
oAbility to treat service users with respect and dignity at all times, adopting a culturally sensitive approach
oAble to work effectively in a team
oAble to build constructive relationships
oAbility to plan treatment programmes in conjunction with multi-disciplinary team
oPerson-centred in clinical approach
oAbility to provide medical and mental health assessments, formulate diagnoses and initiate treatment plans

oExcellent communication skills both verbal and written
oBroad knowledge of the biological, psychological and social determinants of mental disorders in old age and evidence based management interventions
oUp to date knowledge of recent DH documentation and NICE Guidelines
