Barts Health NHS Trust is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and committed Consultant Obstetrician with a specialist interest in Fetal Medicine to join our dynamic and forward-thinking Women's Health team at Newham University Hospital. About the Role The post holder will be expected to provide consultant-led care in Fetal Medicine Unit and will work closely with multidisciplinary colleagues to deliver evidence-based, patient-centred care. They will contribute to the management and development of the Fetal Medicine service. The successful applicant will: Develop Fetal Medicine services in collaboration with specialist midwives, neonatologists, and allied health professionals. Support clinical governance, quality improvement, and patient safety initiatives. Teaching and supervision of trainees and medical students Participate in research, service innovation, and audit activities aligned with Trust priorities. We are looking for a consultant who is: On the GMC Specialist Register or be within 6 months of CCT at the time of interview. Has completed recognised training in Fetal Medicine ultrasound scanning. Have a strong commitment to multidisciplinary working, clinical excellence and innovation Passionate about equity, inclusion and improving outcomes for diverse populations.

In response to increasing demand on maternity capacity and one of the highest birth rates in the UK at over 5500/year, the Trust has developed an integrated Women's & Family Health Unit on site, which provides modern and effective facilities for Maternity, Neonatal Care, Fetal Medicine, Early Pregnancy Assessment Unit, Emergency Gynaecology Assessment Unit, Specialized and General Gynaecology and Adolescents. The service reconfiguration enables more streamlined pathways of care to be implemented, as well as provides more attractive facilities for patients and their families through the consumer engagement. Maternity wards include new Maternity Assessment Unit, Fetal Medicine Unit, antenatal ward, postnatal ward and central delivery suite. During the daytime a consultant provides dedicated Central Delivery Suite (labour ward) cover from 08.00 to 16.00 with the second consultant covering antenatal and postnatal wards and gynaecology ward including emergency gynaecology. There is consultant presence on site till 22.00 hours for all seven days of the week. The group of consultants work on a 'hot day' basis, with all other regular commitments cancelled.

Person specification

Essential

CCST/CCT (or equivalent), or within 6 months of a date, or entry on the Specialist Register of the GMC for Obstetrics & Gynaecology.
ATSM/SITM or equivalent in Fetal Medicine
Wide experience in Obstetrics & Gynaecology
Record of Completed audit projects.
An understanding of Clinical Governance and its application to Obstetrics and PSIRF
Commitment to continuing personal development
Good verbal and written communication skills
Good organizational skills
Experience of multidisciplinary working
Enthusiastic and highly motivated, innovative and adaptable to change
Thorough grasp of current Obstetrics developments
Demonstrable skills in department management
Record of Teaching at under- and post- graduate levels.
Evidence of multidisciplinary teaching
Evidence of excellent team working and high standard of communication skills

Desirable

Subspecialty in Fetal Medicine
Leadership and Teaching qualifications
