SHO for Gynaecology and Obstetrics

This post is for an ST1/2 junior doctor based at Northwick Park Hospital. The appointee will be required to undertake all aspects of clinical care within this very busy department supporting the consultants in the management of the gynaecological elective and emergency workload. If appointed you will be working in a busy and demanding but supportive department where you will have access to a wide variety of clinical caseloads. Following the closure of the maternity unit at Ealing the obstetric workload is based at Northwick Park. This consists of mostly high risk patients with diverse medical conditions. Currently there are 6000 bookings with an annual delivery rate of approximately 5000 deliveries at the NP site. There are specialised clinics for diabetes, maternal medicine, haematological conditions and multiple pregnancy. The labour ward has 98 hours consultant presence and further on call cover. This is separate from the gynaecology consultant cover. Ante natal clinics are at Northwick Park and Central Middlesex. There is a high risk delivery suite with dedicated theatres, HDU, triage, observation bay and recovery unit. There is also midwifery led ward for low risk women and those wishing to have a water birth.
