About the role

The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and skilled Consultant Urologist to join our well-established and supportive team, based at Rotherham Hospital. Our Urology department provides a comprehensive service across the major sub-specialties, including general urology, BPH surgery (Rezum, HoLEP and TURP), female urology, andrology, stone disease (including PCNL), upper tract diagnostics and therapeutics, and both cancer and non-cancer MDT provision. Radical pelvic cancer surgery is managed in partnership with Sheffield Teaching Hospitals, while TRFT delivers integrated inpatient and outpatient care and follow-up for prostate and bladder cancer patients. You will join a team of 5 consultants, 2 specialty doctors, and a strong training complement (2 Senior Clinical Fellows, a Core Surgical Trainee and 2 Foundation Trainees), supported by 2 Advanced Nurse Specialists, 4 Cancer Nurse Specialists and a dedicated Andrology Cancer Nurse Specialist. We are particularly keen to hear from candidates with demonstrable experience in the assessment, treatment and surgical management of stone disease, including endourological procedures, who can confidently manage both elective and emergency stone patients and help develop our stone service further. Flexibility to support the wider needs of the department including outpatient clinics, theatre lists, MDT meetings, emergency cover and service development is essential.

Provide comprehensive elective and emergency urology care for in-patients and out-patients Participate in the out-of-hours on-call rota (1 in 6) alongside consultant colleagues Contribute to the training, supervision and management of resident medical staff Engage in audit, research, clinical governance and service development Play an active role in the management and modernisation of the department

Person specification

Essential

Evidence of audit and the implementation of change following the audit
Full registration and a licence to practise with the GMC
Please provide your GMC Registration centre
Eligible to be included on the Specialist register - CCT expected within 6 months of interview date
Evidence of CESR application submission and within 6 months of obtaining Specialist Registration via CESR
MBBS or equivalent primary medical qualification
MRCS specialist qualification or equivalent
Demonstrate effective team working skills
Time management and organisational ability. An example may be they have developed and run training programmes
Proven knowledge of systems and process of NHS or equivalent
Sense of understanding and commitment to corporate responsibility
Commitment to and understanding of their responsibility to the organisation. Examples may include previous involvement in management roles, management courses
Proven ability to teach and train others
Experience in stone surgery would be essential to undertake the role above skills required to achieve CCT
Demonstrable experience in Stone surgery and also General Urology
