About the role

Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking to appoint One LAS Specialty Registrar (ST3-ST5) in Stroke Medicine to join our team to cover a vacancy. The appointment is to commence on 6th August 2026 for a fixed term period of 12 months. This is not a formal Training post and does not carry an NTN, although recognition of the year as sub speciality training for those in UK training schemes may be sought by the applicant from their Postgraduate Deanery as part of a formal Out of Programme Training (OOPT). Full MRCP(including PACES) and ALS are essential criteria to be considered for this post. The post will include a range of experience working in Hyperacute, acute and stroke rehabilitation care, gaining experience across the whole pathway. The post holder will be required to work 8 months in Sheffield and 4 months in Doncaster which will support gaining specialist experience of working in a DGH HASU and a neuroscience centre as part of the stroke network. As this post is not recognised as a 'training post', full registration with the GMC with a licence to practise is required. If the appointee does not hold right of residence in the UK sponsorship will be required and provided. The duties of this post are equivalent to Speciality Registrar ST3+ level. Essential

Registered with the GMC with a licence to practise by the date of application
Basic Medical Degree (MBChB)
Full MRCP (including PACES) by the date of application
Completion of at least 02 years post graduate training post completion of Foundation training or equivalent
Successful completion of foundation years training or equivalent
Valid Advance Life Support (ALS)/ ATLS Certificate by the date of application
Have at least 24 months' experience in medicine (of which at least 12 months must include the care of medical in-patients) by the time of commencement.
Demonstrate the ability to prioritise clinical need and the ability to apply sound clinical knowledge and judgement to problems
Demonstrate the ability to maximise safety and minimise risk
Recognition of, and ability to undertake the initial management of, an acutely ill patient.
Experience of teaching medical students and resident doctors
Evidence of participation in CME/CPD in the last 12 months
Ability to work as part of a team
Ability to keep good medical records and communicate with other hospital departments and primary care
Ability to understand and communicate with patients and colleagues
Willingness to participate in departmental education programme
Demonstrates behaviour consistent with PROUD values (see appendix)
Competence in pre-operative and post- operative management of general surgical patients (surgery specific)
The applicant must have demonstrable skills in listening, reading, writing and speaking in English that enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues, as set out in the GMC's Good Medical Practice (2014).

Desirable

Higher degree, e.g.MD/PhD
Competence in thrombolysis or thrombectomy decisions making
Experience at CT/ST 1/2 level of managing patients with Neurological disease is desirable
Further NHS clinical experience particularly in Stroke
Maintenance of a CPD diary or portfolio
Active involvement in a clinical governance programme
Evidence of completion of an audit project or quality improvement project
Basic computer skills including Microsoft word and Outlook
