A General Practitioner in Wales is a frontline doctor delivering comprehensive, community-based care, acting as the first point of contact for patients. Key duties include conducting consultations (in-person or telephone), home visits (when required), diagnosing conditions, prescribing treatment, and managing chronic diseases, usually working within a multidisciplinary team. Key Responsibilities & Duties Clinical Care: Assessing, diagnosing, and treating patients at the surgery or in their homes.
Preventative Health: Offering health education and promoting prevention within the community.
Referrals: Referring patients to hospital specialists or other healthcare professionals when necessary.
Administration: Maintaining accurate patient records, signing, and managing electronic systems.
Teamwork: Working closely with practice staff, including nurses, pharmacists, and administrative teams.
