About the role
This is an opportunity to apply for a new breast radiologist post, joining a supportive team of five experienced breast consultant radiologists. The post is made from a combination of retirements. The Worcestershire Acute Hospitals Trust manages the Hereford and Worcester Breast Screening Programme together with symptomatic breast imaging for Worcestershire. This combined Breast Imaging Service is a sub-directorate of the Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust recently formed Breast Directorate. In April 2020, Breast Radiology and Breast Surgery merged to form a new Breast Directorate, part of the Women and Childrens Division. This is proving an exciting and supportive way of working for our breast team, facilitating a breast disease focus within our organisation and securing the future development of our service. As part of the Consultant Advisory Appointment Committee, shortlisted candidates will be asked to provide a 5 minute presentation on the topic: Challenges and opportunities of AI in Breast Imaging
Interested candidates are invited to contact Dr Maria Carrillo to discuss the opportunity. AAC Interview date: 21/07/2026 Please note: JD is pending Royal College approval.
The post will involve both screening and symptomatic breast imaging. The post holder will have breast imaging duties at both the Worcester Breast Unit and Alexandra Hospital Breast Unit. The post holder will undertake a range of symptomatic breast imaging including: mammography and ultrasound breast and axilla for rapid access breast clinics, mammographic reporting, breast and axillary diagnostic ultrasound and image guided (mammographic or ultrasound) markings, localisations, breast and axillary biopsies, and ultrasound guided breast drainage and film reading. There is a commitment to Breast MRI services for Wye Valley Trust for reporting of screening and symptomatic breast MRI that can be done remotely from the Worcester Breast Unit. The Trust have supported breast radiology remote working with provision of a home work station for this post. It is envisaged that these will be used for MDT prep, symptomatic reporting & review plus teaching/ SpA purposes. Screen film reading is not possible from home at the moment but it is hoped this facility will be offered in the near future. The post holder will be required to participate in providing annual/ study leave cover across Worcester Acute Trust. There will be active involvement in regular Multi-Disciplinary Meetings, provided by cancer services.
