About the role
To complement our existing team, the Health Protection Division in Public Health Wales is seeking to appoint a highly motivated and enthusiastic Public Health Specialist to the position of Locum Consultant in Health Protection (Communicable Disease Control).
Public Health Wales is committed to flexible and agile working, and this role offers significant opportunities for remote working, balanced with the operational requirements of delivering a responsive health protection service.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic health protection service, providing leadership and expert advice across a broad range of health protection activities, including communicable disease control, outbreak management, incident response and emergency preparedness.
The successful candidate will provide specialist leadership, advice and input across a wide range of health protection issues, playing a key role in protecting and improving the health of the population of Wales. The post holder will be responsible for dealing with the surveillance, prevention and management of communicable and non-communicable hazards. S/he will provide specialist advice and support Health Boards across NHS Wales together with other consultants in the team. You will support the response to communicable disease outbreaks and health protection incidents in both community and healthcare settings, working closely with local, regional and national partners. Subject to suitability and agreement with the post holder there may be the opportunity to participate in the Health Protection Out of Hours Consultant On-Call Rota, providing expert consultant advice and leadership for incidents, outbreaks and urgent enquiries outside normal working hours. This role offers an excellent opportunity for an established consultant, a newly qualified specialist, or a senior trainee nearing CCT who wishes to gain valuable consultant-level experience within a supportive and high-performing health protection service.
