Newgate Medical Group is seeking an experienced Locum Clinical Pharmacist to join our supportive and forward-thinking primary care team. This flexible locum opportunity offers the chance to work within a busy, patient-focused practice, providing high-quality clinical pharmacy services alongside experienced GPs, nurses, pharmacists and other healthcare professionals. You will play a key role in supporting medicines optimisation, delivering structured medication reviews, managing long-term conditions and improving patient outcomes, while enjoying the flexibility of locum work within an established multidisciplinary team.

As a Locum Clinical Pharmacist, you will play a key role within our multidisciplinary primary care team, providing expert clinical pharmacy services to improve patient outcomes and support safe, effective prescribing. You will undertake structured medication reviews, manage long-term conditions, optimise medicines, and provide specialist advice to patients and healthcare professionals. Working closely with GPs, nurses, community pharmacies and secondary care, you will help ensure seamless medicines management across care settings. The role also includes supporting quality improvement initiatives, promoting evidence-based practice, contributing to service development, and providing education and support to colleagues. This is an excellent opportunity to work collaboratively within a supportive pharmacist network while making a meaningful difference to patient care.

Person specification

Essential

GPhC registered pharmacist.
To be enrolled in, or has qualified from, an approved 18-month training pathway or equivalent that equips them to be able to practice and prescribe safely and effectively in a primary care setting (for example, the CPPE clinical pharmacist training pathways).
Hold or be working towards an GPhC independent prescribing qualification.
Proof of relevant professional and educational qualifications, coupled with details of any training.
Ability to communicate complex and sensitive information effectively with people at all levels by telephone, email and face to face.
Excellent interpersonal, influencing, negotiation and organisational skills with the ability to constructively challenge the views and practices of managers and clinicians.
Understanding of safeguarding adults and children.
Ability to promote best practice regarding all pharmaceutical matters.
Ability to work within own scope of practice and understanding when to refer to GPs.
Ability to record accurate clinical notes.
Effective time management (planning and organising).
Ability to follow legal, ethical and professional policies/local policies/procedures and codes of conduct.
Ability to use own initiative, discretion, and sensitivity.
Ability to identify risk and assess/manage risk when working with individuals.
Demonstrate personal accountability, emotional resilience and work well under pressure.
Knowledge of IT systems including the ability to use word processing skills, emails and the internet.

Minimum of two years working as a pharmacist demonstrated within a practice portfolio.
An appreciation of the new NHS landscape, including the relationships between individual practices, PCNs and the commissioners.
