About the role

We are looking to recruit highly motivated two Senior Research Fellows (0.7 WTE) to join our General Surgery team at the Royal London Hospital, Barts Health NHS Trust. The post will be suitable for trainees at specialist registrar level, peri-CCT trainees or candidates aiming for post-CCT experience wanting to complete a doctoral thesis (MD or PhD).

Barts Health NHS trust currently provides general surgical services from its three sites and HPB Surgery only at the Royal London Hospital site. HPB Surgery is complemented by Upper GI and Colorectal Surgery and Pelvic Floor Services alongside Gynae-Oncology and Urology to provide comprehensive Complex Abdomino-Pelvic Surgery Service at the Royal London Hospital (RLH). In addition, General Surgery along-with Vascular and Trauma Services, provide a complete suite of emergency surgery services.

The fellow position offers exposure this immense emergency surgery (General Surgery, Trauma and Vascular) exposure along with care of elective in-patient from Upper GI, Colorectal and HPB Surgery. Appointee will be expected to use the remainder of time to contribute to research in HPB Surgery under supervision of Prof Hemant Kocher. A commitment towards a higher degree such as MD/ PhD registered at Queen Mary University is anticipated as part of this job. Mentoring and career advice will be provided via the HPB service comprised of five consultants and general surgery department with a total of 14 consultants.
