About the role

So far as is consistent with the proper discharge of the above duties, the post holder undertakes to deputise from time to time for absent colleagues in accordance with the Terms and Conditions of Service. The post holder undertakes, exceptionally, to be available for such irregular commitments outside normal duties as are essential for continuity of patient care. Research-opportunities may be provided for research under the guidance of Consultants. The post holder will be encouraged to undertake skill-based courses as appropriate. The post holder will be expected to work together as a team within the Women and Children's Group, To ensure the maintenance of any relevant accreditation by taking part in appropriate continuing professional medical education. To take part in appropriate multidisciplinary training in areas appropriate to their field. To undertake all work in accordance with the Trust's procedures and operating policies To conduct clinical practice in accordance with contractual requirements and within the parameters of the Trust's and Operational Group's services plans To provide effective leadership while supporting the SHO's, Rotational Speciality Trainee Doctors, Specialist looked after Children(LAC) Nurses and medical students

This post holder essentially covers Acute paediatric unit and Neonatal unit at a Middle grade level. The post holder is responsible for the following Managing children admitted to the Paediatric ward under supervision of a Consultant. Supervising and supporting Tier 1 doctors and Nurse practitioners in patient care in children's ward and assessment unit . Managing babies on the Neonatal unit under supervision of consultant Supervision and supporting Tier 1 doctors and Nurse practitioners in patient care for babies on the neonatal unit and maternity unit. Attending high risk deliveries on the maternity unit Attending resuscitation calls in A&E Seeing patients referred to the Paediatric Assessment unit and Providing support and advice to A &E doctors, General Practitioners Attending and seeing patients in outpatient clinic independently under supervision of a consultant Participate in the on call rota with other middle grades Any other special interests which the candidate(s) would like to develop should be communicated during the application/selection process.

Essential

Registerable Medical Degree, e.g MBBS
Eligibility to work in the UK
Evidence of 4 years (FTE) postgraduate training in the UK (or equivalent training) of which at least 2 years training must be in relevant specialty or a recognised equivalent training
Relevant specialty clinical knowledge at the appropriate level: capacity to apply sound clinical knowledge relevant to the job
Clinical judgement: experience in making clinical decisions and managing risk. Knows when to seek help, able to prioritise clinical need.
Proven ability to work effectively in different clinical settings required in the job
Demonstrates clarity in written/spoken communication and capacity to adapt language as appropriate
Works in partnership with patients, always considers patients preferences when discussing treatment options
Empathy and sensitivity: capacity to listen and take in others' perspectives.
Team working: demonstrated experience working in a team, values the input of other professionals in the team.
